Microphone feedback: PA and stage placement
Separate the acoustic path, pickup and operating level before EQ or equipment replacement.
Ask about rental or technical support
Start with date, venue and approximate needs. We assess options, configuration and operation; availability and terms are confirmed in the proposal.
Contain and isolate first
If a sustained tone appears, lower the affected channel instead of turning it up to test. Identify microphone, mains, monitor and the position where it starts. Check without exposing an audience, at controlled levels; do not sustain feedback to hunt a frequency.
Open one microphone with the actual voice. Record whether movement, another open microphone or a monitor introduces the problem. Working music does not prove the voice loop is correct.
Change one variable at a time
Review PA aiming against the performance area and the exact microphone pickup pattern. Monitor placement follows that pattern, not one universal position. Appropriate close pickup can avoid needing excessive gain to compensate for weak speech.
Then review levels and routes on the identified system. If EQ is used, save the state and compare the same speech and positions; do not copy filters or promise a preset cure. Geometry changes require rechecking affected areas.
Production options
We can assess repositioning, a microphone suitable for the task, different PA distribution, monitoring and an operator. A larger system alone does not remove feedback. Send date, venue, stage/PA photos and presenter movement; an unknown model can be identified before the final proposal.
Questions and decisions
Should all but one microphone be muted?
For diagnosis, check one source at a time, then add required sources. Agree who handles unused channels during the show; do not mute participants without coordination. Record which combination reproduces the problem.
Does an automatic suppressor replace placement?
No. It may be considered as a tool for the exact system, with limits and testing, but does not validate aiming, pickup or usable margin. If the required level cannot be achieved, agree on a different design or scope and an operating alternative.
