SICO Cam-Lam: a dance floor for a gala or room changeover
Plan panels, perimeter trim, floor checks and the conference-to-dinner changeover with practical questions for your event proposal.
Identification and use
Cam-Lam is a portable laminate dance floor laid over a suitable existing floor. It does not create an elevated stage or compensate for an unsuitable supporting surface. Identify Cam-Lam panels and trim before planning the installation.
Components and variants
- Panel
- Official nominal size: 4 × 4 ft, 0.75 in thick. Add perimeter trim to the overall footprint.
- Connections
- Cam-lock panel and trim connections; follow instructions 118801 Rev. G, including their assembly sequence.
- Finish and handling
- Laminate surface, matching perimeter pieces and a suitable transport caddy. Confirm references and supplied quantities.
Plan the show
For a room changing from conference to dinner and dancing, compare installing a dedicated dance area in advance with clearing and installing it between sessions. Check table positions, exits, storage and the time when the work area can be isolated.
A proposal can include panels and all perimeter pieces, transport, installation, inspection and dismantling, with lighting and sound coordinated separately. Start with the room and intended activity; the final floor size need not be known at the first inquiry.
A preinstalled area can avoid installation during the guest program but occupies room space throughout. A later installation releases that space earlier and requires an agreed work window. We can present both footprints and a task schedule; the chosen arrangement still needs the documented floor and perimeter checks.
Preparation before use
- Review the existing floor, flatness, condition and transitions with the venue and supplier; do not assume carpet, grass or a tent makes the substrate suitable.
- Identify panels, locks, trim and the supplied tool; follow the model’s illustrated assembly order.
- Inspect the complete dry floor and its perimeter before opening, periodically during use and after use.
- Plan cleaning and caddy storage using the exact maintenance instructions, away from the public changeover route.
Questions and solutions
- How much dance floor should we request?
- Can Cam-Lam replace an elevated platform?
- What if panels separate or a trim piece is missing?
- Can we use it outside or under a tent?
- Can we polish or wax it before the gala?
- What should a dance-floor and room-changeover proposal include?
- Can we keep the dance floor installed during the conference?
- Where should the DJ or band go in relation to the dance floor?
How much dance floor should we request?
Describe the activity, guest count and likely simultaneous dancers, then compare room layouts. For a geometric example, six nominal 4 × 4 ft panels form an 8 × 12 ft panel area before trim. This is a layout example, not an occupancy approval. Keep dining, circulation and exits in the drawing.
Can Cam-Lam replace an elevated platform?
No. It is a floor surface supported by the existing floor. If performers need elevation, assess a separately documented stage; if the aim is a defined dance area, compare a ground-level floor with using the venue’s suitable existing surface.
What if panels separate or a trim piece is missing?
Close the affected area. Rev. G prohibits use with missing trim, damaged or uneven sections, unlocked panels or specified gaps of 1/8 in (3 mm) or more. Check identity, orientation, cleanliness and engagement against the illustrated instructions. Do not force a lock or cover a gap with tape to keep operating.
Can we use it outside or under a tent?
SICO presents Cam-Lam for indoor events and Starlight II for indoor and outdoor use. For an outdoor reception, compare the documented outdoor model and its accepted base; a tent does not change Cam-Lam into that model. Review the exact floor, perimeter, moisture and operating conditions before selecting the proposal. The manual’s wet-floor prohibition still applies.
Can we polish or wax it before the gala?
Rev. G says not to wax, buff or sand the surface, and not to oil or grease locks. It allows dry cleaning and specifies a limited damp-cleaning method; avoid products the manual prohibits, including soap, oil, polish or wax wipes and abrasive cleaners. Keep a wet floor out of use. Confirm cleaning products with the supplier.
What should a dance-floor and room-changeover proposal include?
Ask for the panel area and the complete trimmed footprint, plus handling, installation, inspection and removal. Compare a preinstalled dance area with a timed installation after furniture is cleared. Define who moves the venue’s furniture, where panels and carts wait, and when public access resumes. We can separate the floor scope from DJ, sound and lighting services so two suppliers do not quote the same work or leave a task unassigned.
Can we keep the dance floor installed during the conference?
Compare a defined floor area outside conference seating with installing it after chairs and tables are removed. Mark the full trimmed perimeter and walking routes. A layout review can avoid repeatedly moving the floor; the venue and supplier still need to accept the supporting surface and intended use during each segment.
Where should the DJ or band go in relation to the dance floor?
Draw separate areas for dancing, the DJ or band, loudspeakers and cable routes. Dance-floor panel area is not usable stage space by default. We can compare an existing suitable performance area with a separately documented platform, then quote floor, sound, lighting and installation together or as separate scopes.
