Lighting and control
ETC Ion Xe 2K
Prepare Ion Xe 2K with an external monitor and Eos; check license, fixture profile, protocol and signal path before diagnosing output failure.
Ask GLMedia about renting ETC Ion Xe 2K for your event. Availability and configuration are subject to confirmation.
Model and purpose
- Manufacturer
- ETC
- Model
- ETC Ion Xe 2K
- Variant
- Ion Xe 2K; 4311A1011
- Base license
- 2048 output addresses
- Physical outputs
- 4 DMX/RDM 5-pin XLR ports
- Network
- 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports
Eos Family lighting console for programming and playing cues, palettes and effects. The Ion Xe variant differs from Ion Xe 20 in its physical faders. The license limits emitted addresses; it does not equal the number of programming channels or fixtures.
Prepare your rental inquiry
- Date, city, venue and setup, event and pickup schedule.
- Intended use, area dimensions and equipment already supplied by the venue or production.
- Show platform and version, fixture profiles, universe count and required outputs.
- Operator, connections, backup and replacement equipment to be considered.
Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.
You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.
Features and connections
At least one external monitor must be connected for Eos to initialize; up to 2 DisplayPort monitors are supported. Touch control also requires a compatible USB connection.
It can output local DMX or network sACN and Art-Net. A node converts network data to DMX when the receiver requires it; it does not expand the console license.
Prepare the system
- Connect monitor, keyboard, mouse and grounded power. Identify network connections and cables; do not treat the Ethernet ports as a switch.
- Check Eos version, fixture library and System Count in About. Save a show copy before changing patch, networking or software.
- For a single-console system, confirm the Primary role. In Patch, match fixture model, DMX mode and address, then verify protocol and physical destination.
Questions and troubleshooting
Are levels visible but fixtures do not respond?
Follow the path from the channel to the output being used.
- Confirm fixture power and matching profile and address. Check calculated output, not just the channel intensity level.
- For networking, check the protocol in Patch > Protocols and Setup > Device > Network, receiver interface and universe. Confirm Default Protocol or the interface assigned to that channel.
- For local cable, check Local DMX and Setup > Device > Local Output: the port start address may have been remapped. Test a simple known path.
Is capacity exhausted while unused channels remain?
Licensed outputs and show channels count different things.
- Check System Count and used addresses in About. A fixture with many attributes can occupy numerous addresses within a single channel.
- Adding a connector or node does not add outputs. Identify unnecessary patch before editing it, saving the show first.
- In a Primary/Backup system, check both licenses: the lower one determines system System Count. Do not assume they are added together.
Does the console start but fail to enter Eos or output as expected?
Check the monitor and role before reinstalling or clearing settings.
- Connect and power an external monitor before starting Eos; for touch, also check USB.
- Offline is not a show operating mode. In Client, local DMX output is disabled by default unless Output In Client Mode is enabled; verify the session design.
- Record version, status and symptoms; save the show and logs if the console becomes unresponsive. Do not start troubleshooting with Deep Clear or component firmware updates.
Quick reference
| Output path | Where to check | Destination |
|---|---|---|
| Local DMX | Patch > Protocols / Local Output | Port and start address |
| sACN | Patch > Protocols / Network | Universe and interface |
| Art-Net | Patch > Protocols / Network | Universe and destination |
Precautions
- Input 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz; ambient 0–35 °C. Maintain ventilation and a dry area without condensation.
- Use Power Off Device before cutting power; fully disconnect power for hardware servicing.
- Check hardware revision and Eos requirements before updating. Units shipped after March 2023 have different requirements from early units; prepare a backup and maintenance window.
Terms on this page
- DMX
- A data protocol controlling lighting functions; each model defines what its channels mean.
- RDM
- Management communication for querying or configuring compatible equipment over a compatible path.
- Patch
- Assignment of fixture, profile, address and universe in the control system.
