City Theatrical Multiverse SHoW Baby
Prepare the 5900 transceiver with correct role, compatible SHoW ID and terminated DMX; check RDM and signal-loss behavior.
Ask GLMedia about renting City Theatrical Multiverse SHoW Baby for your event. Availability and configuration are subject to confirmation.
Model and purpose
- Manufacturer
- City Theatrical
- Model
- City Theatrical Multiverse SHoW Baby
- Model
- Multiverse SHoW Baby P/N 5900
- Capacity
- 1 DMX universe of up to 512 slots per unit
- Radio
- 2.4 GHz; compatible SHoW DMX Neo and Multiverse modes
- Connections
- 5-pin XLR In/Out; supplied 12 VDC power supply
A wireless DMX/RDM bridge carrying console data to receivers and then to wired fixtures. SHoW ID selects the radio system; it does not replace each light’s DMX address. Sharing a radio band with another protocol does not establish interoperability.
Prepare your rental inquiry
- Date, city, venue and setup, event and pickup schedule.
- Intended use, area dimensions and equipment already supplied by the venue or production.
- Transmitter and receiver models, protocols and generations that must work together.
- Locations, obstructions and planned wired recovery path.
Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.
You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.
Features and connections
Connect DMX IN for transmitter operation; leave that input empty for receiver operation. Receivers deliver DMX through OUT. Confirm Tx or Rx indicators.
The button selects Neo IDs for compatible systems; RDM accesses Multiverse IDs and further settings. The initial 201 setting supports older SHoW Babys.
Provide the correct power supply, approved antenna and mounting. Keep the antenna clear and orient it as instructed; RF strength does not establish a correct patch or valid DMX data.
Prepare the system
- Fit antenna and power supply with the work area controlled. Position transmitter and receivers with line of sight where possible and protect cabling.
- Connect the console to transmitter DMX IN. Leave receiver IN empty, connect OUT to the first fixture, and terminate the final device in the chain.
- Match SHoW ID, Neo/Multiverse family and SHoW Key when used. Record settings through RDM before changing them.
Questions and troubleshooting
Both units show blue, but lights do not respond?
Blue can indicate any advanced ID absent from the button table.
- Read the actual SHoW ID through RDM and compare both ends. Matching LED colors alone are insufficient.
- Check compatible ID family and band; a Multiverse receiver setting is not established by a number used in Neo mode.
- For Multiverse, also match SHoW Key and the relevant universe. Then check the connected light’s address and personality.
Do multiple universes interfere or receive the same data?
Each SHoW Baby transports a universe; multiple sources need a radio plan.
- List each transmitter and its SHoW ID. Do not put independent transmitters on the same ID to create different universes.
- Changing light addresses does not separate radio transmissions. Different SHoW Keys on the same ID are not the manual’s solution either.
- Design compatible IDs and receivers for each link. When using error correction, check its slot reduction before assuming a full universe remains available.
Good RF, but flickering or erratic behavior?
Separate the radio link from the DMX line and RDM traffic.
- Compare a known fixture and cable, then check termination and connectors. On a transmitter, connecting OUT removes IN’s automatic termination; the continuing chain needs final termination.
- RDM Traffic controls downstream device traffic. The manual recommends disabling it for production after configuration because some devices do not handle it correctly.
- Test signal loss in a safe area: the receiver stops emitting data, but the final look depends on each light’s DMX-loss setting. Do not assume universal blackout.
Quick reference
| Button color | Neo SHoW ID | Selection |
|---|---|---|
| Green | 201 | Adaptive / default |
| Cyan | 102 | Full band |
| Magenta | 117 | Low band |
| White | 133 | Mid band |
| Red | 149 | High band |
| Yellow | 165 | Wi-Fi channel 14 area |
Precautions
- Dry indoor use, IP50 and ambient 0–40 °C. Keep away from water; do not confuse its protection with an outdoor fixture rating.
- Maintain at least 20 cm between antenna and people as instructed. Use approved antennas and matching settings; do not change antenna or power by intuition.
- Secure unit, supply and cables with compatible accessories. Do not open the housing for routine checks; record firmware and errors before service referral.
Terms on this page
- DMX
- A data protocol controlling lighting functions; each model defines what its channels mean.
- RDM
- Management communication for querying or configuring compatible equipment over a compatible path.
- Patch
- Assignment of fixture, profile, address and universe in the control system.
- Personality
- A control mode defining the channels and functions used by a fixture.
