Lighting and control
Wireless DMX, W-DMX, CRMX and Multiverse
Confirm radio compatibility and full configuration before distributing receivers.
Ask GLMedia about a lighting rental solution for your event, subject to availability and technical requirements.
Using this guide
Radio replaces a data section; the correct universe, personality and address remain necessary.
Prepare your rental inquiry
- Date, city, venue and setup, event and pickup schedule.
- Intended use, area dimensions and equipment already supplied by the venue or production.
- Visual goal and problem to solve; venue plan or identified photos if available.
- Decisions already agreed with venue, production and video to assess a suitable solution.
Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.
You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.
Features and connections
W-DMX and CRMX have hardware-dependent generations and compatible modes. Multiverse uses its own ecosystem. Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or an app do not prove compatible DMX reception.
Prepare the system
- List transmitter, integrated or external receiver, generation, firmware and modes supported by both manuals.
- Test console and fixture by cable. Insert radio afterward and check transmitter data input, RF link and receiver output separately.
- Record pairing and settings; test final positions under representative audience conditions and prepare wired or local recovery.
Questions and troubleshooting
Will they not link despite both being wireless?
Sharing a band does not prove a compatible protocol.
- Compare compatibility tables and transmitter mode; do not choose generations blindly.
- Check TX/RX role and previous links. Do not globally unlink without knowing which units will be affected.
Does the link work but functions behave incorrectly?
An RF link does not validate the patch.
- Compare universe, personality, address and dimmer/shutter values with the wired test.
- For Multiverse check SHoW ID and SHoW Key where applicable; these are not DMX addresses.
Does it fail when the audience arrives?
Reproduce the symptom from actual positions.
- Check obstructions, antenna and power; compare RF and data indicators without changing everything together.
- Test another permitted location and prepared recovery. Do not promise fixed range without testing.
Precautions
- Do not assume RDM or multiple universes because a radio is present; check each path’s capacity.
- Do not modify antennas, internal modules or firmware to force interoperability during an event.
- Document data-loss behavior and safe fixture state; restoring a link may restore previous levels.
Terms on this page
- DMX
- A data protocol controlling lighting functions; each model defines what its channels mean.
- RDM
- Management communication for querying or configuring compatible equipment over a compatible path.
- Patch
- Assignment of fixture, profile, address and universe in the control system.
- Personality
- A control mode defining the channels and functions used by a fixture.
