Lighting and control

Chauvet Professional Rogue R1 BeamWash

Set the exact BeamWash personality, check the shutter and color controls, and compare Red Shift and PWM settings with the actual camera.

Ask GLMedia about renting Chauvet Professional Rogue R1 BeamWash for your event. Availability and configuration are subject to confirmation.

Model and scope

Manufacturer
Chauvet Professional
Exact model
Rogue R1 BeamWash / ROGUER1BW
Light source
7 × 40 W RGBW
Photometric angles
Beam 4°–37.8°; field 5°–58.2°

A compact moving wash that can narrow its output for beam effects and widen it for stage coverage. Choose it by throw, measured coverage and the intended look. This model is distinct from Rogue R1 Wash, R1X Wash and Outcast versions; a similar name is not a matching console profile.

Prepare your rental inquiry

Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.

You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.

Connections and capabilities

Wired control uses DMX and RDM over 5-pin XLR. Power input/output is Neutrik powerCON; supply is 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz. It does not become an Art-Net, sACN or wireless receiver because the console uses those protocols: an appropriate external node or receiver must provide the fixture’s DMX input.

Pan is 540° and tilt 230° at their full settings. The published general zoom range of 3.4°–67.7° is not interchangeable with the separately listed beam and field angles. Check photometry and framing for the actual distance; do not size coverage from lumens alone.

Prepare the fixture and patch

  1. Record the ROGUER1BW label and Sys Info > System Information > Ver, along with the exact console profile. Select Run Mode > DMX and match 14CH, 15CH, 19CH or 21CH; set Address to the same start address as the patch.
  2. Provide a protected, grounded supply, rated power cable, 5-pin DMX cable and the correct profile. For overhead work, qualified personnel must select the omega bracket, rated clamp and secondary safety cable using the complete mounting instructions. Check movement clearance before power.
  3. Save the show. Test one secured fixture at low output, with movement stopped and the beam away from eyes. Check dimmer, shutter, a single color and zoom separately. Do not sweep every channel to full: Control can trigger configuration changes or resets.

Questions and troubleshooting

The head moves, but the light is dark or the wrong color. Which channels should I compare?

Use the table for the selected personality. The following proposed check is only for 21CH; a 14CH profile puts the shutter and colors at different channel positions. Channel numbers are relative to the fixture’s start address.

  1. In 21CH, compare dimmer 6 and fine dimmer 7 with the console output. Set Strobe 8 within 020–024 for steady light, then test RGBW on 9, 11, 13 and 15 one at a time at moderate intensity. Strobe 000–019 is Off.
  2. For direct mixing, leave Color 17 = 000, Movement Macros 19 = 000 and Control 21 = 000. Those values select documented no-function ranges. If the result differs, check profile, patch overlap and a known-good direct DMX cable before changing calibration.
Why does the white warm up when I fade, or differ from the next fixture?

Setup > Red Shift deliberately warms the output as dimmer decreases. Enabling it also sets White Mode and Color Calibration to On. White Mode On targets 7500 K at full output; Off uses maximum color output and Custom stores a balance. These are different operating conditions.

  1. Record Red Shift, White Mode, Color Calibration and the LED R/G/B/W POWER settings on both units. Compare the same DMX look with the same camera white balance; do not copy calibration values from another model.
  2. For a constant-color comparison, propose a rehearsal with Red Shift Off after saving the original settings. Compare at matching dimmer levels, restore the intended look and record the result. The manufacturer’s notes identify Red Shift as added in V1.211005; if a menu is absent, document the actual firmware rather than ordering an update.
How should I compare PWM when the camera records bands?

The Rev. 6 menu lists 600, 1200, 4000, 6000 and 15000 Hz. The product page also lists 2000 Hz; confirm what the actual fixture offers instead of assuming that option exists. No listed frequency guarantees every camera mode.

  1. Record firmware, PWM Option, dimmer and color, plus camera fps, shutter, exposure and white balance. Exclude active strobe and other lights in the test frame.
  2. Change one available Setup > PWM Option at a time while camera and intensity stay fixed. Record labeled clips, then repeat a useful setting at the planned dimmer levels and fades. If flicker is visible without a camera, check signal, shutter and patch first.

Terms on this page

DMX
A data protocol controlling lighting functions; each model defines what its channels mean.
RDM
Management communication for querying or configuring compatible equipment over a compatible path.
PWM
Modulation of LED output; interaction with a camera may produce recorded bands or variations.
Patch
Assignment of fixture, profile, address and universe in the control system.

Documentation and sources

Checked October 22, 2026. Relevant manual PDF pages: 7–14 for safety, setup and menus; 16–17 and 22–25 for the channel checks and color/PWM settings. Repeat rehearsal checks on the actual unit and camera; results apply to the conditions tested.
