Lighting and control
Lighting a presenter with camera and LED wall
Prepare face light, movement and LED background through joint lighting and video checks.
Ask GLMedia about a lighting rental solution for your event, subject to availability and technical requirements.
Using this guide
Define the wide shot and close-ups before positioning lights. Wall and presenter need separate controls.
Prepare your rental inquiry
- Date, city, venue and setup, event and pickup schedule.
- Intended use, area dimensions and equipment already supplied by the venue or production.
- Visual goal and problem to solve; venue plan or identified photos if available.
- Decisions already agreed with venue, production and video to assess a suitable solution.
Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.
You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.
Features and connections
Front light must cover the agreed movement; shaping and aiming help protect background contrast. Screen timing and fixture flicker require separate diagnosis.
Prepare the system
- Mark positions, heights and movement; agree on camera, exposure, white balance and test content with video.
- Test key, fill and backlight with a person, actual clothing and glasses. Check transitions between zones from every camera.
- Save stable front light and record agreed screen settings; confirm who controls each system.
Questions and troubleshooting
Does the face become dark while walking?
Look for coverage gaps and level differences between zones.
- Walk the area while recording the planned shots; check edges and beam overlap.
- Re-aim and balance before adding fixtures. Repeat with the presenter looking both ways.
Does the LED force overexposure of the face?
Assess face and background within the same shot.
- Display bright and dark event content and check the signal with video; do not copy a brightness percentage from another venue.
- Limit front-light spill onto the wall with compatible shaping and coordinate brightness/exposure while retaining audience readability.
Do bands or patterns appear in recordings?
Identify whether the defect comes from lighting, the LED or its interaction with camera.
- Test each system separately and record shutter, frequency, level and shot that reproduce it.
- Video should check processing, sync and supported LED settings. ShutterSync is specific to compatible systems, not a universal option.
Precautions
- Do not promise minimum distance, lux or freedom from moiré without testing the actual camera, lens, screen and framing.
- Keep supports and cables outside movement; suspend only with documented attachments and secondary retention.
- Rehearse control loss with an agreed recovery state; do not improvise network or firmware changes during the show.
Terms on this page
- Shutter
- A fixture function opening or closing light output; distinct from the camera shutter.
