Projection guide

Calculate distance and choose a lens

Ask GLMedia about rental options for event projection. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

Planning criteria

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

As an estimate, projection distance ≈ active image width × throw ratio. Use matching units and the ratio for the exact model, lens, and format.

This guides research; focus, offset, lens shift, mounting, and measurement reference still need checking. Start with approximate dimensions and identify what to confirm.

System decisions

Active width
Measure the actual image area, not frame or diagonal. Confirm working aspect ratio and resolution.
Exact lens
Identify code and projector compatibility. A family name or physically similar lens is insufficient.
Actual position
Check the estimate against the official table or calculator. Review height and reference point; for UST, do not use a generic chassis distance.

What to share

Share image width and height, available distance, and screen and projector positions.

For existing equipment, send model, lens, and identification photo. We can identify missing details without guessing a variant.

Preparing the comparison

  1. Calculate an initial range only with the applicable ratio. Conditional example: 4 m width with Barco R9802300 at 0.65–0.75:1 gives approximately 2.6–3 m.
  2. This example requires compatibility, format, focus range, and official measurement reference checks. It is not an approved mounting dimension.
  3. Use the correct model and resolution distance table; do not mix tables for variants with different aspect ratios.
  4. Test center and edge focus, geometry, and readability at the planned position before fixing the installation.

Three technical questions

Can I multiply diagonal by throw ratio?

The ratio uses image width. With diagonal alone, establish aspect ratio first to obtain width and height; do not substitute frame dimensions for active area.

Does zoom allow any distance in the room?

Optical zoom has a limited range and some lenses are fixed. Check focus, offset, and shift too; throw range does not guarantee every installation height.

Does this calculation specify screws, mount, and safety?

The estimate only guides the optical path. Mount, attachment, loads, ventilation, and safety distances require exact-system documentation and site conditions.

Installation and limits

Do not use digital correction to replace an incompatible lens or operation outside its range.

Keep measurements and documents. A different variant or lens requires reviewing the affected calculation.
