Sony BRC-AM7
Sony BRC-AM7: zoom, control, and tracking
Ask GLMedia about rental options for a PTZ camera system. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.
Model and use
With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.
The BRC-AM7 combines a one-inch-type sensor, 20x optical zoom, and built-in PTZ Auto Framing. Rehearse subject movement and recovery under actual lighting to prepare tracking.
For multicamera production, plan switcher video, control, and recording separately. Check framing, color, and synchronization at the actual destinations.
Video, audio, and control
- Video and audio
- SDI OUT 1 supports 12G-SDI; SDI OUT 2 is 3G-SDI. HDMI, IP streaming, XLR audio, and mini-jack inputs are also provided. Identify each receiver’s supported format.
- Control
- LAN and VISCA IN/OUT are different connections. For networked RM-IP500 control, the guide specifies SETUP 4 ON, applied at the next power-on. VISCA requires a configured administrator password.
- Power
- PoE++ IEEE 802.3bt Type 4 Class 8 or a compatible DC supply. PoE++ operation does not support clip recording/playback or media initialization/update; pan/tilt acceleration is also restricted.
What to prepare
Record firmware, controller, format, switcher signal, and internal recording needs. Identify the power supply and system PoE budget.
Share presenter positions and moves. A sketch lets us help plan coverage and checks before the final schedule or floor plan is ready.
Basic preparation
- Complete initial Web App setup and record versions. Confirm the intended camera responds before saving presets.
- For RM-IP500 over LAN, check SETUP 4, password, and shared network; follow controller camera assignment. Schedule any restart during preparation.
- In Technical > Zoom > Zoom Type, choose Optical Zoom Only or On(Clear Image Zoom). The latter adds processing-based magnification: up to 1.5× in QFHD or 2× in HD beyond optical zoom.
- Clear Image Zoom is unavailable with S&Q above 60fps or frequency 119.88 or 100. Check format and mode before looking for an unavailable option.
- In automatic Person start mode, include the detection area within Tracking Range. Rehearse subject entry, exit, and return; manual operation or a preset may pause tracking.
- Check picture, sound, and synchronization at the switcher and destination. For internal recording, prepare compatible DC power and test media, recording, and playback.
Three technical questions
Why is the extra zoom range missing?
Check Zoom Type and the format and S&Q conditions listed. Clear Image Zoom uses processing; it does not make the entire range optical.
Check the result on the output in use. Other BRC models’ Digital menus do not describe this camera’s menu.
Why is there video but no controller movement?
Separate the video path from control. For RM-IP500 over LAN, check initial password, SETUP enabled at startup, network, and camera assignment.
With another controller, check exact model, version, and protocol before reusing a procedure. Avoid a reset as the first step: it can erase network and user settings.
What should I check when tracking does not start or stops?
Check Person mode, detection area, Tracking Range, and pause status. Check Resume after manual operation; rehearse recovery when the subject leaves frame.
Check installed firmware. Version 3.01 notes include auto framing enhancements and optical stabilization; availability must be checked for features announced for a future version.
Checks by symptom
| Symptom | Check | What it helps distinguish |
|---|---|---|
| No internal recording | Power type and media status. | PoE++ restriction or recording setup. |
| No control | Password, SETUP, network, and exact controller. | Initialization or control link. |
| Tracking paused | Status, area, and previous manual action. | Expected pause or lost subject. |
Limits and precautions
Keep movement clear and follow the exact camera and support mounting documentation. Do not carry the unit by its head or infer load capacity from a similar accessory.
When PoE++ soft authentication using LLDP is enabled, the guide says not to connect DC power simultaneously. Establish the documented power arrangement before connecting.
Back up configuration and check versions before updating. Rehearse tracking and synchronization; other systems’ reports do not establish latency for your path.
