Shure ULXD4Q
Diagnose a wireless channel by separating tuning, receiver audio and the output route.

Model and application

- Analog audio
- XLR mic / line
- Network audio

- Direct / Audio Summing
This is the quad ULXD4Q. Record its regional band and firmware; do not apply ULXD4D channel counts or assume every ULX-D band combination works.
Connections and required equipment
Transmitter → receiver RF/audio → direct or summed XLR/Dante → console. Wireless Workbench control is separate from a successful audio subscription.
Prepare the system
- Save receiver configuration and document transmitter models/bands.
- Coordinate legal frequencies and match the supported tuning range.
- Protect destinations before testing one channel.
Questions and troubleshooting
A transmitter fails to sync or RF appears without usable audio.
An RF indication alone does not confirm a valid audio link.
- Use the exact mixed-band compatibility tables when applicable; perform IR sync to the selected receiver channel and confirm success. Check encryption/sync warnings and transmitter mute.
- Compare receiver audio with the intended output. If incompatible or still silent, record bands, versions and messages for support rather than disabling security.
Two console inputs unexpectedly carry the same mix.
Inspect receiver Audio Summing before repatching the console.
- Read DEVICE UTILITIES > AUDIO SUMMING. Its selected groups affect XLR and Dante; Frequency Diversity is a different function.
- If isolated channels are intended, plan a protected change to OFF and verify each channel separately. Preserve an intentional summed design; do not sum again downstream blindly.
Receiver audio meters, but Dante or console control fails.
Audio transport and remote control need separate evidence.
- Match SWITCHED, REDUNDANT AUDIO or SPLIT to the official port map. Check subscription and clock for audio; application/interface and Yamaha Device ID for compatible console control.
- Do not change mode during a show. The manual requires removing network connections and a restart when changing it. If unresolved, preserve event logs, topology and versions for support.
Choose the next check
| Observation | Next check | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| No usable wireless audio | Band/IR/mute | Sync result and audio meter |
| Duplicated mix | Audio Summing | Group and destination |
| Network failure | Mode/clock/control | Logs and exact versions |
Precautions
- Keep redundant networks separate.
- Match XLR mic/line level to the console input.
- No generic factory reset, firmware update or copied IP plan.
