Shure ADXR
Prepare an artist’s monitor bodypack by separating RF reception, program audio, headphone settings and remote control.

Model and application
- Role
- IEM receiver
- System
- Axient Digital PSM
- Program path
- RF to earphones
- Remote control
- ShowLink
- Audition function
- CueMode
ADXR is a receiver worn by the listener. Its audio depends on a compatible transmitter, matching radio configuration and an actual monitor feed; the model name alone does not validate a mixed-generation system.
Connections and required equipment
Console send → compatible IEM transmitter → antenna/RF → ADXR → earphones. ShowLink controls parameters on a separate path. A strong control indication does not prove usable program audio.
Prepare the system
- Record bodypack/transmitter bands, firmware and mode; label the performer’s assigned mix.
- Inspect the approved battery and earphones; start with listening volume low.
- Compare transmitter input, bodypack audio and RF/quality meters, then walk-test the actual performance area.
Questions and troubleshooting
Case: RF is present, but listening is quiet or distorted.
Trace gain before increasing the volume.
- Check source clipping, receiver audio mode, gain trim, volume limit, limiter and headphone-drive setting against the actual earphones.
- Change one stage at a time at controlled level; do not disable protection or copy fixed gains from a forum.
- If the transmitter input is already clipped, correct that upstream stage before receiver gain; if its input is clean, compare the bodypack/output settings without increasing exposure. Verify the intended mix at reduced listening level with suitable earphones; unresolved distortion requires source, earphone, mode and version details for Shure support.
Case: scrolling CueMode does not change the mix.
Firmware changes the audition workflow.
- In 1.3.6, scrolling previews an entry; press Enter to apply it, as the official notes specify.
- Confirm the applied mix and exit state before handing the pack to the performer; do not assume older scrolling behavior.
Case: UPDATE FIRMWARE remains after an update.
Check the starting version and the applicable release notes.
- For ADXR starting at 1.2.1 or earlier, the 1.3.6 notes require two installations; the unit is not fully functional between them.
- Finish the documented process off show with suitable power, then verify system versions and rehearse before use.
- If the message remains after completing the installations required by the applicable notes, keep the pack out of performance use and send the exact start/end versions and message to Shure support. Do not keep repeating updates or hand over a pack whose program and controls have not been verified.
Choose the next check
| Observation | Next check | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| RF but weak audio | Gain chain and earphones | Modes, levels, earphone model |
| Cue stays unchanged | Preview versus applied entry | Firmware and active cue |
| Update message | Starting version and release notes | Version and exact message |
Precautions
- Reduce listening volume before changing gain, mode or earphones; settings do not guarantee safe acoustic exposure.
- Remove abnormal, swollen or damaged batteries from use and follow manufacturer handling/service instructions.
- Coordinate RF and test coverage; do not lower squelch during a performance to conceal an unresolved problem.
