Sennheiser EW-DX EM 4 Dante
Trace a wireless source from its transmitter to the console without confusing network discovery with audio.

Model and application
- Receiver channels
- 4
- Analog output
- XLR / jack
- Network audio
- Dante
- Network modes
- Single Cable / Split / Redundancy
- Control
- WSM / Control Cockpit
Identify the exact receiver suffix, regional frequency range and transmitter. EW-D and other EW-DX receivers are not interchangeable descriptions.
Connections and required equipment
Transmitter → RF → decoded receiver audio → analog or Dante → console. Control software uses its own supported network path.
Prepare the system
- Record firmware, bands and current network mode.
- Protect destinations and save the network/console patch.
- Test one compatible transmitter and one destination.
Questions and troubleshooting
A replacement transmitter will not synchronize.
Check compatibility before changing settings.
- Compare exact transmitter and receiver frequency ranges; select the intended receiver channel. Follow its SYNC sequence, including a short transmitter SYNC press.
- Check receiver RF and audio separately. An unsupported combination or persistent error needs exact models/versions for support; do not improvise an infrared routine.
RF and receiver audio are present, but Dante is silent.
Find the point where decoded audio stops.
- Compare the selected Single Cable, Split or Redundancy mode with the official port diagram; then check Dante subscription, clock and console input. Do not bridge redundant networks.
- Verify the intended destination at protected level. If using analog instead, use only one analog socket per channel; preserve the patch if the fault remains.
Dante Controller sees it, but the control application does not.
Visibility in one application does not prove another control path.
- Record application version, active network interface, receiver firmware and port mode. Compare discovery requirements with official support.
- On firmware4.0, check documented device claiming and refreshed device list. This does not diagnose older firmware. Keep security controls; escalate with evidence rather than reinstalling the computer.
Choose the next check
| Observation | Next check | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| No sync | Exact band/channel/SYNC | Models and RF status |
| Dante silent | Mode/subscription/clock | Receiver audio and destination |
| No control discovery | Application/NIC/security | Versions and topology |
Precautions
- Coordinate frequencies under the applicable local rules.
- Do not update a live system blindly; firmware4.0 security migration has no rollback.
- Do not disable STP, join redundant networks or disable the firewall as a generic fix.
