Sennheiser EW-DX EM 2: variant, power and audio

Prepare two wireless channels without confusing control networking with the Dante variant.

Ask about rental, purchase or integration

Tell us the use, date and venue, even with an approximate brief. We can assess equipment, integration, preparation and technical support. Configuration, availability and terms are confirmed in the proposal.

Identify the exact receiver

EW-DX EM 2 is a two-channel digital receiver. This page addresses the standard variant; EW-DX EM 2 Dante and EM 4 Dante are other models. For identification, standard Q1-9 is article 509342; Dante Q1-9 has a different article. Validate the band for location and use, not family name alone.

The standard model supports 11–13 V DC or IEEE 802.3af Class 0 PoE per specification. Ethernet and PoE do not add Dante output: prepare analog audio to suitable mixer inputs. Include supply, switch, cables, antennas and transmitters in the system list.

Prepare and diagnose by stage

  1. Record model, band, firmware and supported transmitters; save configuration and coordinate RF with other venue users.
  2. Verify documented power and switch PoE budget. An antenna distributor is not an assumed compatible power supply because connectors look similar.
  3. Link using the system guide. Test one microphone at a time: RF, receiver audio level, output and mixer channel.
  4. With RF but no voice, check mute, transmitter accessory and analog path before resyncing everything. If only network control is missing while audio works, diagnose control separately.
  5. Rehearse movement, charging and replacement off program. Assess rental, purchase, preparation and integration; start with date, venue and approximate voices.

More setup questions

Are PoE and Dante the same?

No. PoE supplies power; Dante carries audio on a model that includes it. Identify full model and destination before patching.

Can I copy the EM 4 Dante setup?

Not directly. Channels, outputs, ports and distribution may differ. Use the standard EM 2 manual and accessories approved for that unit.
