Check the complete rear label. Standard GALAXY 816 and GALAXY 816-AES3 have different physical outputs. The standard model’s analog XLR outputs feed powered loudspeakers or amplifier inputs; they do not power passive cabinets.

Connections and required equipment

Analog or AES3 reaches the selected input; AVB audio uses the network ports. Compass controls input selection, matrix routing, processing and mutes. Ethernet control visibility alone does not establish a compatible network audio stream.

Prepare the system

  1. Save the working configuration; identify each output’s loudspeaker/zone and intended source.
  2. Confirm analog/AES3/AVB selection and clock status, then verify the matrix route at protected output level.
  3. Rehearse each zone separately; measure alignment before editing delay, polarity or Product Integration.

Questions and troubleshooting

Case: Compass sees the unit, but network audio is silent.

Separate controller connectivity from audio transport.

  1. Confirm the source actually provides a supported AVB/Milan stream and the network supports the required timing; Dante is not a directly interchangeable stream.
  2. Check subscription, input selection, AVB sync and Audio clock indications against the installed firmware guide.
  3. If controller activity is present without audio-clock/stream validity, the control connection has not verified audio delivery. After the documented correction, check input, output and the actual destination at controlled level; persistent sync/subscription errors require network and firmware details for Meyer Sound support.
Case: analog input B stopped after enabling AES3 on A.

The physical inputs form documented pairs.

  1. AES3 connects at A, C, E, G; the analog companion B, D, F, H is disabled when its pair uses AES mode.
  2. Choose the intended AES3 left/right channels in Compass or restore the planned analog pair with destinations protected.
  3. If restoring the planned input mode returns the expected channel meter, the paired-input selection was relevant; verify both intended channels and their destinations. If a known-good compatible signal still fails, record physical port, format and Compass selection for support rather than swapping modes repeatedly.
Case: input meters move, but one fill zone is silent.

Follow the route instead of adding input gain.

  1. Inspect the selected Summing Matrix crosspoint, gain, input/output mutes and actual output cable.
  2. If timing is wrong, record input, crosspoint and output delays separately; their contributions can accumulate.
  3. If input meters but the output does not, compare the matrix and mutes; if output is present, continue through cable and downstream input. Verify the same reference in the affected zone after correction; unresolved timing needs measured alignment by the system engineer, not a copied delay.
