Luminex GigaCore 10t: planning a lighting network
A compact distribution option connecting control and stage, with groups and topology defined before load-in.
Proposed test, scope and alternatives
The reference here is the second-generation GigaCore 10t. It has eight 1 Gb/s EtherCON ports; fiber, uplink speed and PoE depend on the product code. Distinguish it from the earlier GigaCore 10 and the 10t-IP. Request the full code before specifying fiber or node power.
A Group segments traffic using VLANs; it is not a DMX universe. Luminex’s MA-Net3/sACN guidance proposes separate groups, ISL inter-switch links and a coherent central querier/root bridge for redundancy. Design depends on scale; a small network may retain factory settings.
For multicast sACN, inspect subscriptions and IGMP in the group carrying the data. Reachable management does not prove that group reaches a receiver. Do not copy another generation’s settings or add a second path creating a loop without a designed redundant topology.
- Survey consoles, nodes, models, firmware, ports, distances and shared traffic. Identify the venue network administrator before connecting.
- Save configuration and draw device ports, groups and ISLs. Verify fiber variant and accessories: the 10t name does not establish 10 Gb/s uplinks on every unit.
- Propose destination reception tests, representative load and a link-loss rehearsal during maintenance. Record observed recovery. Maintain ventilation and protection from water as required by the model guide.

Does this switch generate DMX?
It distributes Ethernet traffic. Fixtures with physical DMX input need a suitable node or receiver; some devices accept network data directly.
Does reachable management prove sACN reception?
No. Check sender and receiver group/VLAN, ISL transport, subscriptions and querier separately from web access.
Which alternative should we quote?
We can assess a dedicated network, documented integration with an existing system or wired DMX for a small setup. Send date, venue, approximate destinations and distances to size switches, nodes, fiber and support.
