Lighting and control

Look Solutions Viper NT

Identify the voltage version, separate DMX from the analog remote and check timer state before tracing missing or unexpected fog output.

Ask GLMedia about renting Look Solutions Viper NT for your event. Availability and configuration are subject to confirmation.

Model and purpose

Manufacturer
Look Solutions
Model
Look Solutions Viper NT
Variant / supply
Standalone Viper NT; 1300 W; 120 V / 60 Hz or 230 V / 50 Hz according to unit label
Warm-up / tank
Approximately 7 minutes; 5 L canister
Control
DMX on 5-pin XLR; analog 0–10 V on separate 3-pin XLR; local control and timer
Output scope
Current manual: approximately 30 seconds at maximum; continuous output below 50%

A heated fog generator for visible clouds and atmospheric effects. Output duration depends on the requested level and thermal state. Choose the specified fluid and rehearse the cue in the actual airflow; a full-output burst is not the same operating condition as continuous fog.

Prepare your rental inquiry

Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.

You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.

Features and connections

The listed voltages are versions to identify on the nameplate, not an automatic universal input range. Plan the mains circuit for the actual unit and keep the nozzle area clear before connecting power.

Use Look Quick-Fog, Regular-Fog or Slow-Fog as specified. Their persistence differs; do not substitute haze oil, add fragrances or dilute fluid using advice for another machine. Suspension requires the original hanging set and a competent mounting assessment.

Prepare the system

  1. Record the nameplate, control path, DMX address, pump setting and timer state. Use the manual matching the hardware; the consulted manual does not provide a complete DMX personality map, so confirm the console profile rather than adding guessed heater or fan channels.
  2. Set up dry, stable and ventilated, with a clean fog-free cooling-air supply. Fit the specified canister and check that its coupling is seated and the intake path has fluid. Never run the pump dry.
  3. Agree the test with the venue team, including detection systems, airflow and visibility. Begin with limited output, an attended machine and a clear nozzle area; rehearse both the cue and stopping it.

Questions and troubleshooting

The machine is ready but the remote or local button does not produce fog: what should I compare?

DMX has priority over analog and standalone operation. A valid DMX stream can therefore govern output even while a different control is being used.

  1. Read the yellow DMX indicator and compare the intended address and actual console output. Save address changes with Enter. Keep the console output at a safe test level while identifying the active source.
  2. For an isolated local or analog test, remove the competing DMX path only after agreeing the test and stopping other commands. Check the correct socket: the analog XLR is not a DMX input.
  3. If the selected source is correct, compare Ready indication, pump setting, canister coupling, fluid level and intake tube. Stop if the pump drones or runs dry; persistent faults require service rather than repeated output commands.
Fog starts after power returns or the timer begins with the wrong interval: what should I check?

A timer that was running can resume after mains is restored. The last displayed time determines whether a new cycle begins with fog or waiting.

  1. Read the red Timer indicator and current display before testing. A short Mode press advances a menu item; holding Mode for more than 2 seconds enters or leaves Timer mode.
  2. Compare F.xx as fog seconds with P.xx as waiting minutes. Select the intended starting interval before pressing Enter, and verify its duration with the nozzle area clear.
  3. To leave Timer mode, hold Mode as documented or select ESC and confirm with Enter. Confirm the stopped state before an unattended power restoration; cycling mains does not erase the active timer configuration.
Output fades, the pump becomes loud or deposits appear: what is a useful check?

Separate a thermal duty limit from a fluid-feed or location problem. A forum report alone cannot diagnose the machine or its fluid.

  1. Compare a lower-output cue with the documented continuous-output condition. Read Ready and error indications; do not promise uninterrupted maximum output.
  2. If the pump is loud, stop and inspect fluid level, coupling, tube and accessible filter condition without opening the hot machine. For suspected internal moisture, uncontrolled output or persistent errors, isolate power safely and arrange authorized service.
  3. Check whether dense fog is being drawn back into the cooling vents or deposited on nearby equipment. Correct placement and clean accessible exterior surfaces as documented. Do not flush the vaporizer with vinegar, water or generic cleaner.

Quick reference

Terms on this page

DMX
A data protocol controlling lighting functions; each model defines what its channels mean.
Personality
A control mode defining the channels and functions used by a fixture.

Documentation and sources

Consulted 2026-10-22. Scope: standalone Viper NT, manual 06/2021. Verify voltage, hardware and profile on the actual unit. Do not transfer procedures or extra channels from deLuxe or other models. Proposed checks without a physical GLMedia test.
