LA12X combines amplification, loudspeaker processing and protection. The correct preset depends on enclosure revision and the controller library, not just the loudspeaker family name.

Connections and required equipment

Console/processor audio reaches a selected analog, AES/EBU or Milan-AVB input, then the preset/output route and speaker cable. XLR links are signal connections; amplified speaker outputs are a different electrical path.

Prepare the system

  1. Record firmware/library, enclosure labels, presets and the approved output/load plan.
  2. Confirm INPUT MODE and source lock before tracing input/output meters and mute.
  3. Protect destinations, test one intended path, then validate backup behavior and measured alignment outside the show.

Questions and troubleshooting

Case: a Dante cable is connected, but there is no audio.

An RJ45 connector does not establish a common audio protocol.

  1. Identify whether the network is carrying LA control, Milan/AVB or Dante.
  2. Use the approved conversion/interface path to a documented LA12X input; check source selection and lock rather than assuming a direct Dante subscription.
  3. If the source is Dante without a documented interface to an accepted input, the missing transport is not corrected by an LA control connection. Verify source lock, input metering and the intended output after the approved interface is in place; uncertain conversion/clocking requires the system designer’s review.
Case: input meters move, but the speakers are silent.

Follow the path after the input.

  1. Check preset, output source assignment, output mute and level indications.
  2. Safely isolate amplified outputs before inspecting the documented speaker cable/pinout; never load an arbitrary preset to make sound.
  3. If input is present but output is muted/protected, resolve that state using the exact preset/system documentation. Verify the agreed circuit at controlled level after correction; persistent loss or protection with a validated path requires qualified service, not more input gain.
Case: the main network returns, but some units stay on backup.

Fallback and recovery behavior must match the installed version.

  1. Read the actual active source on each unit; documented AVB fallback can require manual return.
  2. Verify same backup program, aligned level and timing across the system before an engineer coordinates recovery.
  3. If different units show different active sources, coordinate recovery as a system operation rather than changing them independently. In a maintenance rehearsal, verify primary, backup and documented return behavior while comparing level/timing; unexplained source states require firmware/preset records for manufacturer support.
