L-Acoustics KIVA II

A compact passive line-source element for a designed sound system. Evaluate coverage as an array rather than treating each enclosure as a powered point-source speaker.

Model and application

Model
L-Acoustics KIVA II.
Design
2-way passive enclosure.
Connection
2 four-point speakON connectors.
Nominal impedance
16 ohms nominal.
Horizontal directivity
100° horizontal nominal.

Requires an approved external amplified controller and the matching KIVA II preset. Do not transfer settings or rigging from original Kiva because the names look similar.

Connections and required equipment

The enclosure receives amplified speaker-level audio through specified cables, not a console line output. Identify controller, output circuit, cable and complete array; use current amplification and rigging documents for the actual configuration.

Prepare the system

  1. Record enclosure/controller identities, firmware and preset before changing the system.
  2. Protect listeners and compare controller input, output mute/status and intended speaker circuit.
  3. Use the responsible designer’s coverage plan; no universal cabinet count, load or rigging recipe.

Questions and troubleshooting

The console meters move but KIVA II is silent. What next?

Console indication does not confirm the amplified output circuit.

  1. Follow the intended controller input and output, mute and protection indications.
  2. With the system safely muted, have the responsible technician compare approved cable and connector assignment. Do not increase gain to overcome an unidentified fault.
  3. If the controller has input but reports mute/protection, the interruption is downstream of the console; do not compensate with gain. After an authorized correction, verify the intended circuit at controlled level. A persistent protection indication requires the responsible system technician or service.
Why does a section of the room sound different?

Array curvature, aiming and signal paths influence coverage.

  1. Compare the installed design and controller routes with the approved plan.
  2. Document the listening locations and symptom before EQ changes. Mechanical changes require the exact rigging procedure and responsible personnel.
  3. If the difference follows a routed zone, compare that zone’s processing; if it follows a physical listening area, request design/measurement review. Verify the same reference signal at the recorded locations after correction; do not change suspension as a listening experiment.
Can a generic amplifier or another Kiva preset be used?

KIVA II depends on its supported controller and preset.

  1. Read the actual model and library version rather than selecting by name similarity.
  2. Check current amplification guidance for that controller and circuit. Do not invent cabinet-per-channel limits or bypass protection.
  3. If model, preset or controller support cannot be confirmed, leave that circuit out of use until the responsible technician validates the exact documents. Verify the approved configuration before rehearsal; a similar name is not evidence of compatibility.
