L-Acoustics KARA II

A variable-curvature line-source element for designed speech and music systems. Match horizontal coverage and amplified circuits to the actual deployment.

Model and application

Model
L-Acoustics KARA II.
Architecture
2-way active architecture;external amplified controller.
Symmetric patterns
Panflex:70° or110° symmetric.
Asymmetric pattern
Panflex:90° asymmetric to either side.
Amplification
Approved controller and matching preset required.

Active describes the system architecture, not an internal mains amplifier. Identify factory KARA II versus an upgraded enclosure;do not infer servicing parts or configurations from the grille alone.

Connections and required equipment

Use the approved amplified controller, circuit and speaker cable. LF/HF and any subwoofer breakout must agree with the actual program and wiring diagram. A familiar-looking connector does not prove its assignment.

Prepare the system

  1. Record enclosure/controller identity,preset and cable references.
  2. Compare Panflex settings and array geometry to the approved design before operation.
  3. Protect listeners and compare one intended input/output circuit without changing shared routes.

Questions and troubleshooting

Only part of the frequency range is audible. What first?

Check the complete amplified circuit rather than compensating with EQ.

  1. Compare controller program, output indications and cable references with the exact diagram.
  2. Have the responsible technician verify the muted circuit. Do not swap LF/HF or subwoofer outputs from a forum example.
  3. A missing band despite a valid input narrows the comparison to program, amplified outputs, cabling and enclosure; it does not prove a driver failure. Verify the complete approved circuit at controlled level after correction; persistent loss or protection requires qualified service.
Why is horizontal coverage different between sections?

Panflex offers different coverage patterns.

  1. Record each enclosure’s intended pattern and compare with the design.
  2. Mechanical corrections require the manufacturer procedure and responsible personnel;do not adjust a suspended system ad hoc.
  3. If the observed pattern differs from the plan, record the affected enclosures for the responsible technician. After an approved correction, compare the same reference at the same listening positions; do not attempt suspended adjustments to diagnose coverage.
Does a project file prove the installed preset and wiring are correct?

A design file and the actual controller state are separate evidence.

  1. Compare model, library, program and circuit labels after import.
  2. Document mismatches before applying settings. Do not replace a whole controller configuration to solve a single uncertain route.
  3. If labels or loaded program disagree with the intended circuit, stop before sending test audio. Have the system owner reconcile the exact configuration, then verify one agreed route and its complete frequency range; retain unresolved differences for manufacturer support.
