L-Acoustics K3
Match enclosure revision, controller library and coverage setting before testing audio.

Model and application
- Enclosure
- K3, 2-way active
- Horizontal options
- 70° / 110° symmetric
- Asymmetric option
- 90°
- Processing
- External LA controller
- Audio connection
- speakON
Active describes separate amplified ways, not a self-powered cabinet. Identify the label and R1 diaphragm status.
Connections and required equipment
Trace the documented controller outputs and speaker cable. Do not connect console line audio directly to the enclosure.
Prepare the system
- Record R1 status, controller, library and exact preset version.
- Compare physical Panflex settings with the approved design and matching preset.
- Verify signal at controlled level only after compatibility and mechanical checks.
Questions and troubleshooting
Can I select a preset by its K3 name alone?
No: preset names changed between libraries.
- Compare R1 identification with the official compatibility table.
- Stop if revision is unknown; incompatible processing can damage the HF driver.
Why is horizontal coverage different from the prediction?
Check mechanics and processing together.
- Record both fin positions and the intended symmetric or asymmetric pattern.
- Compare the selected preset and design before changing the system.
- If fin positions or documented preset differ from the design, stop and have the responsible technician reconcile them before testing. After an authorized correction, verify the same listening positions with the same reference; unexplained differences require system measurement, not ad hoc fin movement.
Should I delay one side to fix overlap everywhere?
A prediction at one point is not a whole-room alignment.
- Compare source geometry and arrival times at relevant positions.
- Have the system engineer measure overlap and fills; do not copy a delay from a forum.
- If a change helps one point but degrades another, it has not established a system-wide solution. Compare the required listening areas after an engineer’s agreed adjustment; retain measurements and restore the prior state if the result is unacceptable. Escalate unresolved overlap to the system designer.
Choose the next check
| Observation | Next check | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Uncertain revision | Label and library compatibility | R1 and preset version |
| Coverage mismatch | Panflex and preset | Fin positions and design |
| Silent way | Controller route and cable | Input/output indication |
Precautions
- Rigging requires the exact documented hardware and approved mechanical design.
- Do not update libraries or rebuild presets blindly on legacy enclosures.
- Do not bypass controller protection or prescribe cabinet counts from forum reports.
