Lighting and control
GLP JDC1
Choose the actual JDC1 personality, separate pixel content from shutter effects and check why the fixture stops responding while its menus are open.
Ask GLMedia about renting GLP JDC1 for your event. Availability and configuration are subject to confirmation.
Model and purpose
- Manufacturer
- German Light Products
- Model
- GLP JDC1
- Model / document scope
- Original JDC1; manual 20240830-01 for software 178-69-19
- Light sections
- 12 RGB plate pixels and 12 white beam pixels in pixel modes
- Control / protection
- DMX and RDM; 5-pin XLR IN/THRU; IP20
- Power
- 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz; 1200 W at 230 V in the cited documents
A hybrid strobe/wash with a white center beam, color plates and motorized tilt. It supports grouped control or segmented programming according to the selected mode. The original unit needs a dry environment; the outdoor protection and network features of other JDC products do not transfer to it.
Prepare your rental inquiry
- Date, city, venue and setup, event and pickup schedule.
- Intended use, area dimensions and equipment already supplied by the venue or production.
- Wash, effect or accent use; location and target area.
- Required zone or pixel control, profile and cabling, subject to model functions.
Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.
You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.
Features and connections
Power enters through powerCON TRUE1; control uses the physical DMX link. For a network-based rig, provide a compatible gateway and map its output to this fixture. Do not expect a direct Ethernet input on the original model.
Compressed Pro and Normal provide grouped operation, while SPix and SPix Pro add different pixel control layouts. Easy is a reduced mode introduced in software 1.78 and does not include the plate shutter functions of the larger modes.
Prepare the matching console personality, DMX cabling, a documented circuit allowance and qualified mounting. Check the actual unit’s weight, rating plate and applicable thermal limits before sizing support or electrical service.
Prepare the system
- Save the show and record fixture software, mode, address, pixel orientation and flash settings. Match the console’s profile to the exact mode; identical-looking front panels do not prove the same LED revision.
- Release the tilt lock before operation, clear the head’s movement and check the approved clamp and secondary safety attachment. For transport, the current manual calls for the head to be supported in its case/packaging with the tilt lock released.
- Use grounded, protected mains, never an external dimmer. Start with an isolated low-level test and documented no-flash settings. Before leaving a control menu, clear the movement area and warn the test crew: DMX control resumes on exit.
Questions and troubleshooting
Can I use the same pixel profile for SPix, SPix Pro and Easy?
No. The channel layouts expose different functions, not simply different levels of detail.
- Compare the mode name and footprint at both ends. SPix uses 68 channels and includes built-in FX; SPix Pro uses 62 and has a different pixel channel layout.
- Check the exact table before mapping plate and white pixels. Easy uses 11 channels with grouped RGBW plate control and no separate plate shutter; do not search for a plate strobe attribute that mode does not provide.
- Recalculate the next address and save before changing mode. Compare each required function on an isolated fixture rather than compensating for a wrong profile with cues.
Why does the shutter effect look weak or leave continuous light behind?
Inspect all content driving the same section. A shutter effect and steady pixel/background content can make a different look from the one intended.
- Separate the console selections for main controls, plate pixels and white pixels according to the actual library entry. Instance numbering is profile-specific; do not assume a forum’s selection index is universal.
- On an isolated unit at low intensity, compare the intended shutter effect with other pixel/background contributions released through the console. Observe the outgoing DMX and verify the mode’s intensity, duration and rate controls.
- For plate colors, inspect Plate Color Priority: FX/flash color, Color Mix and Background Color produce different combinations. Record the original value before a reversible comparison. If a visualizer differs, test the real fixture before redesigning the show.
The fixture stops responding in its menu or stays lit after DMX loss: what should I check?
The manual disables DMX control while control menus are active. Loss behavior is configurable and must be rehearsed separately.
- Check whether a menu is open before replacing cables. Prepare for movement and strong light when leaving it; return to normal operation only with the test area clear. A flashing display indicates DMX loss.
- Record No DMX Blackout and DMX Hold. The former can black out after more than 3 seconds without valid DMX; the latter offers immediate blackout, Fade Out or Hold. Do not assume every unit has the same stored loss settings.
- Review Information > System Errors if an internal fault caused blackout. Preserve the error and investigate it with service rather than disabling Error Blackout. Rehearse signal loss and return on the isolated system without forcing a reset.
Quick reference
| Mode / footprint | Maximum start address |
|---|---|
| Compressed Pro — 14 | 499 |
| Normal — 23 | 490 |
| SPix — 68 | 445 |
| SPix Pro — 62 | 451 |
| 1Pix Pro — 17 | 496 |
| Easy — 11 | 502 |
Precautions
- Keep the unit away from water and moisture. Maintain 1 m from combustible material and from illuminated surfaces, with at least 100 mm clear around fans/vents. Allow at least 20 minutes to cool before handling.
- Qualified personnel must verify support, full half-coupler clamps and secondary retention against the applicable manual. Do not use alignment, casing screws or another fixture’s mounting instructions as load evidence.
- Avoid direct viewing and coordinate strobe use and audience notices. Keep the original settings and show backup; do not sweep the Special/Control channel, which can change settings or reset the fixture.
Terms on this page
- DMX
- A data protocol controlling lighting functions; each model defines what its channels mean.
- RDM
- Management communication for querying or configuring compatible equipment over a compatible path.
- Personality
- A control mode defining the channels and functions used by a fixture.
- Shutter
- A fixture function opening or closing light output; distinct from the camera shutter.
