Lighting and control

Chauvet Professional Vesuvio II

Trace the separate fog and lighting controls, identify the fixed-voltage model and check readiness before extending a cue or opening a thermal fault investigation.

Ask GLMedia about renting Chauvet Professional Vesuvio II for your event. Availability and configuration are subject to confirmation.

Model and purpose

Manufacturer
Chauvet Professional
Model
Chauvet Professional Vesuvio II
Variant / supply
Vesuvio II; fixed 120 VAC / 60 Hz or 230 VAC / 50 Hz according to model
Effect / fluid
Fog bursts with dual RGBA+UV LED zones; Chauvet QDF; 2.5 L tank
Control
15-channel DMX personality; 3- or 5-pin XLR; local timer and manual controls
Environment
IP20, dry use; maximum ambient 45 °C

A heated fog effect with independently controlled color zones around the plume. The visual style resembles a colored jet, but the machine uses fog fluid rather than a CO2 supply. Plan short, attended cues with safe clearance and rehearse the actual stop and recovery.

Prepare your rental inquiry

Specify equipment only or whether setup, programming, operation and strike are also needed. Scope is confirmed in the proposal.

You do not need a final equipment list: tell us the result you want and the part you need help with. Availability and scope are confirmed in the proposal.

Features and connections

DMX separates the fog trigger from zone colors, effects and the lighting master. Successful fog output therefore does not establish that the LED controls are ready, or vice versa.

Floor and suspended orientations require the documented supports. Inverted use also requires the specific tank and plate arrangement; turning the complete machine upside down without preparing the tank can cause leakage. Qualified personnel must follow the Tank Inversion and mounting sections.

Prepare the system

  1. Confirm the model, supply label and matching manual. Prepare grounded protected mains, the specified connectors and a documented DMX patch. Save the show and existing address before changing it.
  2. Inspect the QDF level, cap hoses, pickup route and tank retention. Do not assume a low-fluid shutdown will protect the pump; monitor fluid throughout operation and never run dry.
  3. Clear the plume path, coordinate detection and visibility with the venue, and wait for the actual ready indication. Keep fog off while checking lighting channels first, then test an agreed brief burst.

Questions and troubleshooting

Fog works but the LEDs stay dark: which controls should I compare?

A correct fog trigger does not set the colors or the lighting master. Check the complete personality rather than treating the fixture as a simple fog relay.

  1. Keep fog channel 1 at 0 during the light check. Compare zone color channels 2–6 and 7–11 with the console’s map and verify that dimmer channel 15 is above its inactive range.
  2. For the documented test, set a selected color to 255 and the dimmer to 64, keeping color mixing, auto speed and strobe neutral. Compare the raw values with the Rev. 4 table rather than another fixture’s profile.
  3. Check the whole footprint and any overlapping patch. The last complete start in one universe is 498. If the values match but the LEDs still fail, record the behavior for service instead of assuming a generic profile import will solve it.
The LEDs work but the machine keeps warming up or stops producing fog: what is a useful first check?

Lighting and heating are separate functions. Working LEDs do not prove that the heater has reached operating temperature.

  1. Read the status and verify correct mains, ventilation, fluid level and an unkinked pickup route without opening the housing. Compare the agreed fog command with the received channel map.
  2. Do not adopt the short warm-up sentence as a guaranteed readiness time: the manual’s preparation and specification figures conflict. If heating remains abnormal, stop the test and document status and timing for support.
  3. Repeated thermal trips require qualified service. Do not copy forum instructions to open the machine, reset an internal protection or bypass it; a temporary restart does not establish a resolved fault.
The plume is too strong or the timer keeps repeating: what should I check?

The fog DMX channel is a trigger, not a documented proportional output fader. Timer duration and the advertised burst capability are different settings.

  1. In the documented map, channel 1 values 0–9 have no function and 10–255 turn fog on. Reduce cue duration and repetition deliberately rather than assuming a low fader value gives a smaller plume.
  2. Read Interval Set and Duration Set for Timer operation. Press TIMER again to stop its repeating cycle and verify the result with the plume path clear.
  3. MANUAL produces full fog and light while held; VOLUME toggles full output. Agree who controls these buttons and rehearse stopping before enabling them near performers.

Assignment of fixture, profile, address and universe in the control system.
Personality
A control mode defining the channels and functions used by a fixture.

Documentation and sources

Consulted 2026-10-22. Scope: Vesuvio II manual Rev. 4 and matching model. Firmware, hardware and the real patch still require confirmation. Proposed checks without a physical GLMedia test.
