ChamSys MagicQ MQ70: event patch and network preparation

A compact console to assess standalone operation, universe distribution and a repeatable workflow.

Proposed test, scope and alternatives

This page covers the current MQ70 Compact, not the earlier MQ70. The official offering lists 24 universes, expandable to 48, four DMX outputs and three network ports. Confirm the expansion on the quoted unit rather than assuming it from the model name.

A show universe, a direct DMX port and an Art-Net or sACN universe are separate assignments in MagicQ. Prepare a worksheet linking them, with software release, profiles, network and showfile identity so another technician can reproduce the setup.

For a corporate event, we can plan arrival, presentation, video and closing looks. These are proposed uses; design depends on stage, cameras and operator. A standalone console removes the external-computer dependency for operation but still needs suitable distribution and recovery.

  1. Preserve the original before loading a show; record console software and enabled universe capacity. Test a copy first.
  2. In Setup, View DMX I/O, review output type, destination universe and status. MQ Direct identifies console physical output; Art-Net and sACN need their network destinations configured.
  3. Compare fixture mode and address with patch. Propose tests by branch and cue, checking node reception. A saved gray Network Manager entry can be historical rather than currently connected.

Start with your date, venue and approximate needs. We can assess equipment, configuration and operation within an agreed scope.

Do 24 universes mean 24 connectors?

No. There are four direct DMX outputs; additional universe distribution requires a defined network and receiving nodes.

Is the earlier MQ70 identical?

Do not transfer specifications based on its name. Request the generation, software and actual capacity of the proposed unit.

How do I request a complete solution?

Start with date, venue, approximate fixtures and operator needs. We can assess console, nodes, setup, programming and recovery. If the venue already provides a console, review that option before duplicating systems.
