Canon CR-N700
Canon CR-N700: outputs, audio, and PTZ control
Ask GLMedia about rental options for a PTZ camera system. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.
Model and use
With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.
The CR-N700 is an indoor PTZ camera with a one-inch sensor and 15x optical zoom. Plan video, audio, and movement control as separate paths when integrating it into a production.
Installed firmware matters: Canon added internal recording in firmware 1.7.0. Older information describing the card slot as unavailable for recording does not cover every current version.
Video, audio, and control
- Video
- 12G-SDI and HDMI support UHD up to 59.94p; 3G-SDI is an HD output. HDMI/3G-SDI share settings; 12G-SDI is configured separately.
- Network and power
- LAN carries control and IP streaming; RS-422 is a separate control connection. Power options are PoE++ IEEE 802.3bt or DC 12 V through four-pin XLR with a compatible supply.
- Audio
- XLR and mini-jack inputs. Match terminal and LINE/MIC mode to the source; check the camera meter and then the destination.
What to prepare
Identify the switcher, production format, controller, and audio path. Record camera firmware and the application or add-on versions to be used.
Prepare compatible support, identified power, and network connections. A simple diagram lets us help map the system before the final floor plan is ready.
Basic preparation
- Confirm model and firmware before planning recording or tracking. Compare camera, controller, and add-on versions with official release notes.
- Match frequency and format to the switcher input. Selecting 3840×2160 for the HDMI/3G-SDI group stops video from the 3G-SDI output; check each destination.
- Check camera access and PTZ control using the protocol supported by the exact controller. Rehearse moves and presets with cables clear.
- In System > Video and Audio > Audio, check Audio Input, Audio Input Mode, and L/R meters. For a mixer line output connected to XLR, check INPUT Terminal/LINE.
- Check picture, framing, and sound at the final destination. Rehearse recording or streaming with the planned setup and play back a sample before the event.
Three technical questions
Why do I have HDMI video but no 3G-SDI video?
Check the format shared by those outputs. If the group uses UHD, choose a compatible HD format when you need 3G-SDI.
Check selected input, cable, and receiver format. Browser video does not confirm the selected physical output.
Where should I start when audio is missing?
Check that the correct mixer output delivers a signal and the cable reaches the selected input. Then check terminal, LINE/MIC mode, and camera meters.
If the camera has level, follow the signal to the receiver: verify audio is enabled for the transport in use and monitor there. Enabling network audio does not fix a silent source.
Do recording and tracking work with every version?
Check installed firmware: internal recording was added in firmware 1.7.0. Prepare media and mode with the corresponding documentation and verify a playable recording.
For tracking, identify add-on, license, and controller. Compatibility notes do not establish installation; rehearse framing and subject recovery.
Checks by symptom
| Symptom | Check | What it helps distinguish |
|---|---|---|
| No SDI video | Output group format and receiver. | Output configuration or physical path. |
| No audio | Source, cable, input mode, and meters. | Camera input or transport to destination. |
| No control | Network, protocol, and controller versions. | Connectivity or control integration. |
Limits and precautions
Enable microphone power only for a source that requires and supports it. Do not use phantom power as a troubleshooting test for line audio.
Use the exact camera and support installation guides for mounting and safety. Keep PTZ travel clear and use the camera indoors.
Schedule firmware changes outside operation, with a configuration backup and compatibility review. Another camera’s plugin does not establish control of this model.
