Canon CR-N300

Canon CR-N300: HDMI, SDI, USB and IP control

Ask GLMedia about rental options for a PTZ camera system. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

Model and scope

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

CR-N300 is an indoor PTZ camera with a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, 20x optical zoom and hybrid autofocus. It integrates video and control for remote production.

This guide covers CR-N300. Do not transfer connections or functions from CR-N500 or later models. Record firmware and operating mode before preparing video, control or tracking.

Video, network and power

HDMI and SDI
HDMI supports 3840×2160 at 29.97p, 25p or 23.98p. SDI outputs HD, including 1080p59.94 or 50p. They share the selected format: selecting UHD over HDMI disables SDI video output.
USB and network
Physical USB camera mode and the network-based Webcam Driver are separate paths. Physical USB uses Motion JPEG at documented rates of 12.00 or 12.50 fps depending on frequency; it does not match HDMI output. LAN supports compatible control and transmission, with functions depending on configuration and firmware.
Power and control
IEEE802.3at PoE+ over LAN or the model’s 24 V DC adapter. Basic PoE is insufficient. LAN and RS-422 use RJ45 connectors but serve different functions; identify the port before connecting.

System requirements

Compatible power source and PoE+ budget, suitable cables and a receiver supporting the selected resolution and frame rate.

Controller compatible with Canon XC or supported Standard Communication. Check the exact protocol and configuration; discovering an IP address does not establish that the controller can operate all functions.

Initial configuration and authorized Settings Page access. Check versions and conditions for add-on applications; notice 1.8.0 describes changes to preset and Auto Tracking interaction.

Basic preparation

  1. Record firmware, power source, controller and required output. Complete initial setup and preserve settings before changing the system.
  2. Agree on frequency and format with the receiver. For SDI, select a compatible HD format; do not plan UHD HDMI while expecting simultaneous HD SDI.
  3. Check the picture using a known receiver and cable before adding extenders or converters. Then verify every part of the actual path.
  4. For IP control, check unique addresses, network and protocol. On Settings Page, review System > Communication > External Connection (IP) and the selected protocol’s options.
  5. For physical USB, configure over the network first, then power the camera off before setting SERVICE to the documented mode. Distinguish this from the network-based Webcam Driver procedure.

Three technical questions

Why does HDMI work while SDI has no picture?

Check the selected format: with 3840×2160 over HDMI, SDI outputs no video. To use SDI, select an HD format also supported by the receiver.

If already set to HD, compare frequency, signal type and cable. Another camera working on the same path does not establish that both cameras output the same format.

Why does physical USB mode lose network control or microphone audio?

The USB functions guide states that this mode disables Settings Page, IP streaming and controllers except the IR remote. It also states that audio from the microphone connected to the camera is not output.

Prepare settings before changing modes and check the application’s audio path. Webcam Driver receives over the network and creates a virtual device: do not assign physical USB conditions to that path.

Why can a controller find the camera without moving it?

Separate discovery from operation. Check the supported protocol, Standard Communication (IP) enablement where applicable, and controller parameters; Canon does not guarantee connection with every device.

Do not copy ports, authentication changes or switch requirements from an isolated comment. Record both devices’ models and firmware, check operation using a compatible Canon tool, then compare the controller configuration.

Limits and precautions

Indoor use: 0–40 °C, without condensation. Do not force the head or block ventilation; elevated mounting and retention require Canon’s specified procedure and personnel.

Do not assume the microSD slot records program: the consulted specifications state that recording is unavailable.

Preserve settings before updating. Historical instructions can differ: the current installation guide permits simple HDMI/SDI checks before initial setup only under its stated conditions.
