BrightSign XT1144: HDMI input, output and power

Ask GLMedia about rental options for content playback and presentations. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

Model and role

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

The BrightSign XT1144 is a Series 4 digital-signage player for images, audio, video and interactive presentations. It includes HDMI input for a live source. Identify XT1144 on the unit; XT244 shares part of the hardware manual but does not have the same expanded interfaces.

Connections and limits

Video
1 HDMI output and 1 HDMI input, separately labeled. The hardware guide specifies up to 4096×2160 at 60p for each interface. Supported source and display modes still need to match the actual presentation.
USB and control
USB 2.0 Type A and Type C, serial RS-232, GPIO and IR. The Type C port is documented as USB data/host-device, not a second video output.
Storage, network and audio
microSD slot and Gigabit Ethernet. The combined analog/optical audio output cannot transmit analog and digital audio simultaneously. Wi-Fi requires the appropriate installed hardware and is disabled when powered by PoE.
Power
External supply: 12 V, 3 A, 36 W rating; this is not constant measured consumption. Ethernet supports PoE Type 1 and Type 2 with different power budgets. With the external supply, peripherals share a maximum 2 A total; each connector also has its own limit.

What the system needs

Saved presentation and content, suitable storage, a compatible display and HDMI cable, and the correct power source. Record the BrightSignOS version, authoring application and presentation format before making changes.

For live video, provide a supported HDMI source and an authored video-input zone/state. Confirm any required HDCP compatibility across the complete route; a source working directly on a TV does not prove compatibility through the player.

Prepare the system

  1. Preserve the existing project, media and storage contents. Identify XT1144 and record software versions, output resolution/frame rate, schedule and update method. Use a separate test copy rather than overwriting the only working presentation.
  2. Connect the display to HDMI Out and any live source to HDMI In. Select a supported output mode and test a simple local image/video before adding the live source or interactive logic.
  3. For BrightAuthor:connected, the official tutorial describes the Video In widget inside a video zone. Verify that the published test presentation actually reaches that state; connecting a cable alone does not author the live-video layout.
  4. Rehearse the full playlist, transitions, live source, audio, startup and fallback. Test networking and attached USB devices with the intended power method.

Operating questions

Can HDMI Out and USB-C drive two independent projectors?

The documented XT1144 has one HDMI video output. USB-C is USB 2.0, and the other HDMI connector is an input. Dual video decoding does not establish two independent display outputs.

Count the required independent images before choosing the system. If both screens need different synchronized content, specify a documented multi-output or multi-player design; do not assume a USB-C video adaptor supplies an extra output.

The live HDMI source is black, but local files play. What should I check?

Confirm source-to-HDMI In and display-to-HDMI Out, then inspect the presentation’s video-input state and transition. Record the source resolution/frame rate and compare it with the supported route. Test a simple known compatible source and cable during rehearsal.

The hardware manual lists HDCP 1.4 signaling. Verify the actual source’s protection requirements, player software and downstream equipment rather than assuming every protected source works. A direct-to-display test narrows the route but does not identify the cause by itself.

Why does Wi-Fi stop, or a USB device fail, after switching to PoE?

The manual states that Wi-Fi is disabled whenever the player uses PoE. With Type 1 PoE, the total available power is 12 W and each USB port supplies only 100 mA; high-power drives will not operate in that condition.

Check the switch/injector type and peripheral requirements. During a planned test, compare the approved external supply and required Wi-Fi hardware, preserving settings. With external power, stay within the 2 A shared peripheral limit and each connector’s rating; do not reset the player as the first response.

Power, environment and installation

The manual specifies sustained ambient operation from −20 to 50°C. A transient allowance up to 70°C does not authorize continuous operation there. Allow a cold unit to acclimatize before applying power if condensation is possible.

Use the specified power connector and supply; keep ventilation clear. Do not format storage, restore the player or install firmware as a generic fix without preserving the working project and checking the exact model/version.

The checks are proposed rehearsal steps; no physical player, source compatibility or playback result has been tested by GLMedia for this guide.
