ATEM 2 M/E Constellation 4K
ATEM 2 M/E Constellation 4K: routing, audio, and control
Ask GLMedia about rental options for live switching and image distribution. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.
Model and use
With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.
The ATEM 2 M/E Constellation 4K is a production switcher with input conversion and resynchronization. Identify Constellation 4K: HD and Production Studio models have different capabilities.
Define mixing, routing, and recording separately. Prepare the recorder, capture device, or encoder for the planned recording or streaming path.
Video, audio, and control
- Video
- 20 12G-SDI inputs, 12 configurable SDI outputs, and 2 multiviews. Production supports HD and UHD up to 2160p60; check every output receiver.
- Control and USB
- Ethernet connects control and a compatible panel. USB webcam delivers 720p or 1080p at program frame rate; an IP camera needs a compatible video path to SDI inputs.
- Mixing
- 2 M/E, 1 SuperSource, and a 48-channel Fairlight mixer. Video M/Es and AUX outputs do not establish an independent audio mix for each destination.
What to prepare
Prepare a signal list and destination table: screens, returns, recorders, and streaming. Specify each destination’s audio and graphics.
Start with a sketch and known sources. We can help plan conversion, control, and recording before every model or schedule is final.
Basic preparation
- Confirm model, firmware, and Software Control version. Identify the network and control connection separately from video transport.
- Set production format and check sources in multiview. Save graphics and configuration before changing the video standard.
- Assign a source to each output and check its destination. Rehearse Preview, Program, transitions, and compositions before operation.
- Prepare audio On/Off or Audio-Follow-Video as required. Listen and check synchronization at each recorder or stream, beyond switcher meters.
- Check Program and Preview tally for the M/E in use with the actual external system and versions.
- Test recording and streaming at the destination devices. For UHD delivery, verify SDI and capture requirements instead of assuming UHD webcam output.
Three technical questions
Does an AUX output equal another complete program?
An AUX selects a signal; M/E composition and audio mixing require their own planning. Define picture, graphics, and sound per destination.
For shared rooms, rehearse changes and returns so an operation does not affect the wrong destination.
Why does a network camera not appear as an input?
Ethernet control does not replace SDI video input. Identify camera protocol and output, then prepare a compatible receiver or converter.
Check picture and format after conversion before reviewing switcher routing.
Why does tally work on one M/E but not as expected?
Check which M/E, Program, and Preview the interface follows. Shared Ethernet does not establish protocol compatibility or every indication.
Check external system model and firmware and rehearse every camera. User-shared files do not replace documented compatibility.
Checks by symptom
| Symptom | Check | What it helps distinguish |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong output | Assignment and receiver. | Routing or cabling. |
| Unexpected audio | Source, AFV, and destination listening. | Mixing or recording channel. |
| Incomplete tally | M/E, Program/Preview, and interface. | Followed state or compatibility. |
Limits and precautions
Save configuration and media pool content before format or version changes. Check software against the actual operating system.
Prepare cooling and rack support according to documentation. Keep connections accessible for signal checks during rehearsal.
Connector count alone does not define independent room systems. Check audio, control, tally, and operation together.
