BenQ LH850ST
BenQ LH850ST: short throw, screen, and presenter
Compare projection close to the screen for conferences, demonstrations, or interactive content, with a defined mounting space and signal path.
Model and application
LH850ST is a Full HD laser DLP short-throw projector. Its fixed optics require placement and image size to follow the model’s table; short throw does not mean ultra-short throw or automatically remove shadows.
Signal and optics
- Image
- 1920 × 1080 pixels, 16:9; specified brightness 4000 ANSI lumens. Assess readability with the actual content and room lighting.
- Optics
- Throw ratio 0.499:1 and fixed optical zoom. Quick Focus adjusts focus, with fine adjustment through the controls; digital correction does not change the optics.
- Connection
- HDMI input for video; LAN for management. USB power does not make that port a computer video input.
System preparation
- Measure usable width, height, and available distance from the optical reference; check the beam path and presenter’s walking area.
- Physically align the unit and focus using text and a grid. Assess digital corrections only after establishing a workable position.
- Test each source with the same framing and format; save the installation settings before changing them.
- Define audio, source changes, and the operator separately. A projector feature does not replace the complete event system.
Planning questions
- When is short throw useful for a show or conference?
- Can I place it anywhere and correct the image with the remote?
- Where should the presenter stand to avoid shadows?
- Why wait before finalizing focus?
- What should we check if there is an image but the text is blurry?
- Can we request a quote before deciding the final size?
When is short throw useful for a show or conference?
It can help when there is too little depth for a conventional projector. First we check the screen, height, presenter’s position, and ambient light. If a stable position or suitable surface is unavailable, we can compare other projection, a display, or LED. Moving closer does not automatically eliminate shadows or obstacles.
Can I place it anywhere and correct the image with the remote?
The optical zoom is fixed. Digital size, position, or corner adjustment can fine-tune an installation, but uses part of the available image and does not replace correct optical placement. For fine text, check readability and focus across the whole surface.
Where should the presenter stand to avoid shadows?
Review the beam path, screen height, and speaking and walking area. Test a side position or an elevated layout permitted by the manual with a suitable mount. If no workable path exists, compare another location, rear projection with a compatible surface, displays, or LED; moving the projector closer alone does not guarantee a shadow-free image.
Why wait before finalizing focus?
The manual calls for at least 15 minutes of continuous projection for focus stability. Then use FOCUS and fine-adjust through the controls, checking text and a pattern at the center and edges. If an area remains blurry, review alignment and surface before adding digital correction; a rehearsal avoids first-time adjustment during the presentation.
What should we check if there is an image but the text is blurry?
First compare the internal menu or pattern with the source. If the pattern is clear, check scaling, format, adapter, and processing; if it is also blurry, check focus, alignment, and surface. Increasing digital sharpness without diagnosis does not fix an optical problem.
Can we request a quote before deciding the final size?
Yes. With the date, venue, audience, and approximate measurements, we can assess screen and placement, equipment rental or purchase, installation, signal, and operation. The proposal can compare short throw with alternatives and identify what must be checked before confirming the package.
Checks by symptom
| No image over HDMI | Select the connected input, check source output, and try a known direct cable before adding extenders. |
|---|---|
| Small or cropped text | Review the canvas, aspect ratio, and scaling with a representative slide; keep a copy of the previous settings. |
| Mismatch between multiple projections | Compare mode, source, surface, and color adjustments; a balance feature alone does not guarantee a continuous image. |
Use and safety
Use an appropriate mount and follow the manual’s ventilation and clearance requirements. Keep the beam away from eyes and avoid positions exposed to impact or foot traffic.
Optical-engine dust protection does not permit use in rain or remove the need to inspect the unit. For firmware, confirm the unit and version with support before making changes.
