Behringer X32 Compact

Mix local and stagebox sources while keeping input selection, buses and output connectors distinct. Confirm the Compact hardware and installed card.

Model and application

Manufacturer / model
Behringer X32 Compact.
Local microphone preamps
16 local microphone preamps.
Local outputs
8 local XLR outputs.
AES50
2 AES50 ports.
Surface
17 motorized faders.

The Compact is not the full-size X32. Additional remote sources do not create additional physical sockets or unlimited processing channels.

Connections and required equipment

Local XLR, AES50 stagebox links, ULTRANET and Ethernet control have different purposes. Confirm the expansion card before planning computer USB or Dante; the top USB recorder is separate.

Prepare the system

  1. Back up the show; record firmware, card, stagebox and clock plan.
  2. Protect destinations and trace one agreed source through channel, bus and output connector.
  3. Proposed checks compare a known source/cable without resetting the system.

Questions and troubleshooting

Stagebox works, local inputs do not. Where first?

Compare actual input source assignments before assuming hardware damage.

  1. Record whether the channel receives Local, AES50 or card audio.
  2. Try one agreed local source on a protected path. If local input remains absent while other paths work, document it for service; do not open the console.
  3. If the same source/cable works on an agreed spare input, compare the two channel assignments before service. Verify at the intended bus and destination; repeated failure on an isolated known-good path warrants support, not an internal repair attempt.
The bus meters move, but the stagebox output is silent. Why?

A processing output and a physical connector are different stages.

  1. Trace bus to output assignment, then to AES50 transmit channels and rack outlet.
  2. A virtual-output marker alone does not prove a fault. Compare one destination without copying another show’s full routing.
  3. If the bus has signal but the selected AES50 transmission does not, the missing assignment precedes the rack connector. Correct only the agreed mapping and verify the exact outlet at protected level; if still silent, retain bus/transmit/outlet observations for support.
Why is computer playback or recording missing?

Installed expansion-card audio and top USB recording are separate paths.

  1. Identify the card and computer device before checking card input/output routing.
  2. Compare clock, source and destination. Preserve the live routing and test outside program; no generic firmware update.
  3. If computer playback reaches a channel but recording does not, inspect the card’s transmit assignment separately. Verify one playback and one recording path without creating a return loop; unresolved device detection requires the exact card, OS, driver and clock record for support.
