Barco G62-W9: brightness, HDMI signal, and lens selection

Ask GLMedia about rental options for event projection. We review availability, configuration, and alternatives for your event.

Model and use

With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.

G62-W9 is a laser phosphor DLP WUXGA projector with native 1920 × 1200 imaging. Barco specifies 8000 ANSI lumens, 8900 center lumens, and 9500 ISO lumens: method-specific values, not measurements of this unit.

To plan the event, share screen, content, and a possible location. We can compare options before a final floor plan or measurements are ready.

Source, audio, and connection

Source
Prepare the complete path from computer to selected port. Test adapters and extensions with actual content.
HDMI
4K signals are scaled to output resolution. A compatible input does not make the panel native 4K.
SDI
The manual limits SDI input to single link Level A. Identify sender format before preparing a camera path.

What to prepare

Share unit and lens label photos, approximate screen width and height, and available distance. We can guide options without assuming a lens.

Share a demanding slide, videos, and audio path. Tell us whether people will be near the beam and how sources will change.

Basic preparation

  1. Agree on a test window outside the live program for input checks and patterns. Keep the initial settings and record each change, the Status reading and what appeared on the screen.
  2. The blank worksheet records the actual lens, HDMI path and comparison between pattern and content. Restore the agreed configuration and check the full signal path before ending the test.

Three technical questions

The laptop detects the Barco G62-W9, but the projector has no HDMI picture. Where should I start?

Check the selected port in Source > Input signal, then look at Status > Projector information > Signal. A display appearing on the laptop does not prove that the projector is receiving the selected format. Record the resolution, format, vertical frequency and color space shown there. If no signal information appears, record that too.

Source > HDMI has separate EDID settings for HDMI1 and HDMI2. Barco specifies 1.4 for HDMI1.4 devices and 2.0 for HDMI2.0 devices. Check the adapter and everything between source and projector as well; changing EDID without tracing the path can cause a different source to select another format.

Save the starting input and settings. Trace laptop → adapter → distribution or extension → HDMI1/HDMI2. Record the adapter model, operating-system version and actual output format, and check that the laptop is sending content to that display.

Outside the live program, connect a known working source directly to the selected input with a short compatible cable. Table A.4 lists progressive 1920×1080 at both 60 and 59.94 Hz for HDMI1/2. Choose a starting format and change only one variable per test. Note whether Status detects a signal and whether the picture appears.

If the direct connection works, restore the adapter, cabling and distribution one section at a time. The section that reintroduces the fault narrows the search; it does not yet prove which component has failed. If the direct connection also fails, compare another source and the other port, keeping the results of each test.

If Status shows a signal but the image is black, check Shutter (AV Mute) and the content being sent. To separate the source path from the projector, try an internal Test pattern such as White grid. A visible pattern leaves the HDMI path to investigate. Finish by setting Test pattern to Off and checking the event content.

The G62-W9 image does not fit or is off-center. How do I check the lens before adjusting the framing?

Start with the lens part number, image size and lens-to-screen distance. Zoom changes image size, Lens Shift moves the projected area, and Focus adjusts sharpness. An unsuitable lens or insufficient distance must be addressed before saving a framing adjustment.

Barco identifies R9802300 as the G lens 0.65–0.75:1 for WUXGA. As an initial calculation, multiplying a 4 m projected-image width by that ratio gives 2.60–3.00 m. Use this to prepare a layout, then check the actual range, measurement reference and full projected image, including margins, before deciding the installation position.

The installation table lists R98017851 as UST 0.36:1, with no zoom range. It has its own installation procedure. Check the lens fitted to the actual projector before applying either specification.

Record the lens label, screen width and height, projected-image size, measured distance and areas where people will pass. Have the installation lead check the position and alignment to the screen; any relocation must remain within the approved installation plan.

Before showing test patterns, check the beam area and the Hazard Distance precautions for the lens and venue with the person responsible for the installation. Do not infer a safe distance from the projector name alone.

With a conventional lens and a clear mechanical travel path, use White grid and check Installation > Lens > Zoom, Lens Shift and Focus separately. If the motors do not respond, check Lens Lock, which disables lens functions. Establish why it is enabled before changing it.

For a UST lens fixed in its Lens Support, Barco warns against lens movements. Do not use the previous sequence or Lens Calibration in that condition. Follow the installation and adjustment procedure for that exact lens.

Check Installation > Scaling and the source aspect ratio if there are margins or stretched content. Compare the center and corners before and after adjustment. If the internal pattern is correct but the content is not, investigate the source format, scaling or correction. If the pattern is also wrong, retain the lens, position and settings details and continue at the projector.

Save a useful position after checking the result. Lens Memory stores up to five Lens Shift positions; do not assume it has also saved zoom and focus. Remove the pattern and check again with the actual slides or show content.

Why are different brightness values listed for G62-W9?

Keep the method with each value: ANSI, center, and ISO should not be mixed in a comparison. We can review documentation and the planned mode to prepare your inquiry.

For screen and placement selection, compare content under planned lighting. A catalog number does not establish installation readability.

Limits and precautions

Beam area and Hazard Distance require checking lens, configuration, and venue before projection. Plan installation with qualified personnel and exact documentation.

Do not look toward the operating lens or block ventilation. Check power and mounting against the actual assembly.

For a UST fixed in Lens Support, do not execute lens movements or calibration. Preserve that condition and follow its specific installation procedure.

Official documentation

Check the fitted lens and installed firmware. If the menu differs from these editions, identify the version and check its documentation before changing settings. In Status, Lens type is documented only for G62-W14. For G62-W9, check the label and the fitted lens assembly. A documented lens option does not establish which lens is physically installed. The distance calculation is an estimate. Installation, UST restrictions and beam control depend on the lens documentation and venue conditions.
