ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO
ATEM Television Studio HD8 ISO: switching and recording

Model and use
With the date, location, and intended use, we can review which equipment and combination can be offered. You can inquire before measurements, drawings, or the final schedule are ready.
HD8 ISO combines an HD video switcher and control panel. It switches cameras and other sources, delivers program, and preserves separate feeds for later editing.
The base HD8 is not equivalent to HD8 ISO. The HD8 ISO 2TB variant includes internal storage; the HD8 ISO name alone does not establish installed capacity. This is not an Ultra HD switcher.
Sources, destinations, and files
- Inputs and format
- 8 3G-SDI inputs with frame synchronization and format/frame rate conversion. Supports HD formats up to 1080p60; check the system standard and actual source format. An HDMI computer requires suitable conversion to SDI.
- Outputs and control
- 2 SDI auxiliary outputs, program, and SDI/HDMI multiview serve different purposes. Ethernet and USB-C support control; USB-C also provides webcam output. Multiview HDMI is an output, not a presentation input.
- Recording
- Program and ISO inputs in H.264 .mp4; separate 24-bit 48 kHz .wav audio and a DaVinci Resolve .drp project. Check program and ISO recordings separately.
What to prepare
Identified sources and converters, multiview monitor, audio monitoring, and a destination list: display, stream, recording, or return. Define what each destination needs.
A USB-C drive recommended for HD8 ISO or identified internal storage, enough space for the session, and a backup plan. A USB connection to a laptop does not automatically make its drive a recording destination.
Basic preparation
- Identify HD8 ISO, storage variant, and software version. Set the HD standard before rehearsal and check recording modes for that revision.
- Connect power, multiview, and SDI sources. Label each input and check video and audio.
- Connect ATEM Software Control; prepare program and auxiliary outputs separately. Inspect each output at its receiver.
- In the recording palette, select the destination and enable ISO input recording if required for delivery. Check capacity and status before starting.
- Record a rehearsal with camera cuts and audio. Stop and inspect program, input, audio, and project files. Preserve the entire folder and open it in the intended editing workflow.
Three technical questions
Why is program recorded but ISO files are missing?
Confirm the unit is HD8 ISO and input recording is enabled in the recording palette. A program recording does not demonstrate ISO recording.
If the option is unavailable, note switcher standard, software, and destination. Check mode restrictions in the manual before changing the standard; rehearse again and inspect the files.
Does “Internal” mean my computer’s drive?
Internal refers to storage installed in the switcher. The ISO 2TB variant includes it; identify the actual configuration on other units.
Match the destination name and capacity to the equipment. A computer can access switcher media over Ethernet; that does not mean recording is going to the computer’s own drive.
Why does the auxiliary output differ from program?
Auxiliary outputs can select an independent source. Check the assignment on the panel or in ATEM Software Control, and inspect the actual destination receiver.
Define whether that destination needs program, a camera, or another source. Multiview alone does not establish that a display or return is receiving the correct signal.
Checks by symptom
| Symptom | Check | What it helps distinguish |
|---|---|---|
| Program only | Model, ISO option, mode, and files. | Master recording versus isolated inputs. |
| Unexpected destination | Name, capacity, and installed storage. | Switcher media versus computer storage. |
| Wrong display image | AUX assignment and receiver. | Monitoring versus event output. |
Limits and precautions
Do not change the standard or firmware during an event without assessing effects on sources, outputs, and recording. Keep a reproducible configuration and rehearsal.
Input conversion does not make HD8 ISO an Ultra HD system or guarantee every recording mode. Check restrictions for the chosen mode.
Do not erase or format media without a backup. After recording, inspect and back up the entire folder before removing media.
