Minneapolis Convention Center: rigging, floors and freight N096 | https://glmedia.tech/technical-help/minneapolis-convention-center-rigging-pisos-carga/ Minneapolis Convention Center is at 1301 Second Avenue South, Minneapolis. Identify Auditorium Main, the Ballroom, exhibit hall and building level before comparing capacities: a specification for one space does not authorize use in another. The 2026 planner and contractor guides require rigging submissions 30 days before the first move-in day. The Auditorium separates installed hardware rated at 500 lb from main-beam points with a different limit. Confirm the plot, loads and crew with Technology Services; a room rental is insufficient. Which documents apply to production? The official Toolkit includes production documents and visitor information. For this advance, use the Meeting Planner Guide, General Service Contractor Guide and Auditorium Specs for the contracted space. Parking pages and seating capacities do not replace those documents. Keep the revision and source file with your event plot. Request vertical and horizontal limits for the exact area: the guides reference additional rigging documentation and do not establish availability of every point. Which points can I propose, and how are they approved? Submit a scaled plot, flown equipment, point loads, final trim heights by truss line and reflected ceiling plan. Technology Services reviews the assembly with an ETCP-certified rigger. On-site changes require acceptance before implementation. The table separates components and locations; it does not allow loads to be added together or assigned to an unapproved beam. Include motors, hardware, accessories and system forces. All rigging requires qualified personnel; items exceeding 50 lb must be installed by riggers designated or approved by MCC. Location or component | Documented reference | Confirm before use Auditorium: installed I-bolt hardware | 500 lb; vertical dead hangs only, no bridling. | Point identification and authorized use. Auditorium: main beams | Up to 2,000 lb per point; no more than 2 points on a beam. | Accepted beam, location, forces and combined loading. Do not apply this value to an I-bolt. Air wall tracks | 500 lb per vertical dead hang; no dynamic loads. | MCC-supplied hanger and approved location. Which floor and route limits must be kept separate? The manual separates wheel loads from uniform loads. These are different checks: neither replaces a structure’s support calculation or route acceptance. Lobby floor boxes cannot withstand heavy loads; request a route that protects or avoids them. Published area | Maximum wheel load | Maximum uniform load Terrazzo lobbies and common areas | 2,000 lb | 150 lb/ft² Level Two | 1,500 lb | 100 lb/ft² Equipment must display load ratings or have certification from a licensed structural engineer demonstrating compliance. Submit operating weight, package dimensions, wheels, footprints and distribution. Request separate limits for the exhibit hall, stage or support you intend to use. The manual places propane forklifts in exhibit halls and designated dock areas, and electric forklifts in the Ballroom and Lower Level. Forklifts are prohibited in Second Level, Ground Floor and Mezzanine lobbies and in meeting rooms. An aerial lift needs its own acceptance, certified operator and protection; approval cannot be inferred by analogy. Can my audiovisual crew work here? The manual allows full-time AV company employees to handle and operate their own equipment; additional labor must come from IATSE or another MCC-recognized source. Do not extend that rule to venue equipment or restricted rigging work. The Auditorium has specific conditions: its updated packet requires house personnel for all work activity and assigns stage work and rigging to IATSE. Agree on positions, integration, rehearsals, operation and strike before contracting. A room reservation does not establish production staffing. How are power, audio and networking coordinated? MCC exclusively provides electrical and other utility services. Only authorized personnel may access electrical floor boxes and connect or disconnect service. Submit circuit demands and request voltage, phases, connectors, protection and assignment; do not infer an available outlet from a plan. Internet and networking have an exclusive provider. Complimentary lobby and meeting-room Wi-Fi does not establish reserved bandwidth for streaming or control. Contract the applicable service and test coverage, capacity and recovery. Integrating outside AV with MCC systems requires coordination, staffing and specific charges. Confirm signals, interfaces, monitoring and operating responsibility. General lighting and installed equipment do not establish an included AV package. How do trucks and shipments arrive? Auditorium Main and the Ballroom use surface-level loading through the 12th Street access, without raised docks. The quick guide requires a lift-gate truck, ramp or forklift and, if a forklift is used, an operator meeting its stated union requirement. Reserve equipment and labor; MCC does not automatically supply them. The Auditorium has successive doors and a turn between the truck berth and stage. Compare the complete package with the route, not just the outside door. Coordinate appointments and access with the Event Coordinator; the open dock policy retains venue control. When a general contractor is engaged, consign freight to that party and the approved move-in period. Inbound Deliveries describes limited services for show management or an exhibitor without a decorator, with advance coordination and charges. This is not general acceptance of any shipment: confirm the receiver, date, label, storage and pickup. What do haze, fog and other effects require? Haze and fog require prior MCC approval and water-based equipment. Hall A may have additional restrictions. Provide the machine, fluid, SDS, location, duration and test plan before finalizing the proposal. A Fire Inspector or fire watch may be required when activities affect detection. Coordinate with Guest Services and the authority; production must not modify detectors. Request separate classification and requirements for flame, pyrotechnics, cold spark or lasers: haze approval does not cover them. Which schedule must be confirmed? The current Meeting Planner Guide and General Service Contractor Guide require rigging submissions at least 30 days before the first move-in day. Production Quick Guide retains a 21-day reference. Plan around the 30-day requirement and confirm the applicable schedule in writing; do not use the quick guide to shorten it. Exhibit floor plans go to Guest Services at least 30 days before move-in and before space is sold or assigned. The GSC submits its operating schedule 30 days before first move-in. Changes require review; allow time for corrections and effect approvals. Finalize event responsibilities, deliverables and approvals. This guide organizes preparation; it does not establish a reservation, permit or structural approval issued by GLMedia. Is an item under 50 lb exempt from approval? No. The threshold defines a staffing condition for heavier items. It does not remove rigging review, approved-point requirements or support restrictions. Does MCC require all AV equipment to be hired from the venue? The documents allow outside AV equipment subject to staffing and integration conditions. Separate equipment supply, exclusive services and MCC system operation; request each party’s contractual scope. Does a uniform floor load allow any truss support? No. Submit concentrated loads, footprints, distribution, stability and the route. An area load reference and a wheel limit do not independently authorize a structure or concentrated load.
